Original Indie Rock Music that is somewhat familiar to the ear, yet surprisingly new and different
The Shallowz are a Northern Virginia quintet specializing in contagious indie rock.
Dedicated to the creative process of writing and performing original rock music, The Shallowz come from diverse musical backgrounds but work as a cohesive unit to craft and perform their own take on indie rock.
Typically conducted in a small barn in rural Warrenton, Virginia, The Shallowz get together every other weekend to do two things. To work as a cohesive creative unit and to live in the moment. Moments of creation…shutting out the weekly norms of each of their day jobs. This ritual has continued for over 10 years, and the byproduct is The Shallowz. Today the band is comprised of core members Ian Kach – lead & rhythm guitar, Marc Dixon – vocals, Lee Presgrave – bass, Scott McLean on drums with frequent guest guitarist Jason Pualoa. Rhythm guitarist Mike Heskett and drummer Scott McAll were initial members when the band became official in 2011.
We hope that you enjoy listening to our music as much as we enjoyed creating it…if you do, please spread the word! And if you don’t, no worries, at our ages it’s pretty clear by now that we’re way too stubborn to quit making music at this point!
More Songs, Same Barn
More Songs, Same Barn is the second release from the Northern Virginia indie-rock band The Shallowz. All original songs, most recorded in lead guitarist Ian Kach's barn in Warrenton, VA, over the past couple of years, as far back as 2016, but newly released June 2022. In addition to Ian, this recording features Marc Dixon - Vocals, Lee Presgrave - Bass, and Scott McLean - drums. Guest artists on this release include guitarist/background vocalist Jason Pualoa, guitarist Mike Heskett and keyboardist Mike Smith.

Barn Sessions EP Vol. 1
Released in January 2020, Barn Sessions EP Vol. 1 is a 4-track EP of three songs created in the indie-rock/pop tradition of DIY when no studio has ever heard of you. The engineering and production of all tunes is credited to Ian Kach with a few of the vocals recorded at Cue Recording Studios of Falls Church, VA. The musicians on the EP comprise: Ian Kach – lead & rhythm guitar, Lee Presgrave – bass, with Scott McLean on drums. Lead vocals -Marc Dixon with some background vocals by Jason Pualoa.
